BAA's Aberdeen Airport has been named amongst the cleanest in Scotland in a recent independent air quality study.
A six month investigation was carried out across Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh airport's looking at Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) concentrations. The concentrations sampled from the airfield were lower than those taken from areas with large volumes of road traffic.
The survey is carried out every few years and NO2 concentrations at Aberdeen have been falling since 2004. The investigation was carried out by AEA Energy & Environment.
Aberdeen Airport's Environmental Manager stated: "This makes clear how hard we work at Aberdeen Airport to protect the environment and improve our practices. We are extremely pleased to see the trend going down and we are working with our stakeholders partners to ensure this continues."
Elevated levels were found in front of the terminal buildings across the Scottish airports as the areas are frequented by high levels of traffic.
