Rough Weather Delivers Extra 1000 Passengers at Birmingham Airport
Birmingham International Airport recently announced a record breaking February and yesterday saw an extra 1000 passengers arrive at the airport as a result of diversions.
As rough weather and storms wreak havoc across the UK's travel networks it was business as usual at Birmingham Airport with aircraft from London Heathrow and Manchester diverted to the hub due to high winds. Jumbo jet flights from Hong Kong and Johannesburg were among those to land at the airport.
Hong Kong and Johannesburg are destinations which are not currently served by Birmingham Airport as runway length is too short. A planning application has been submitted by the airport to Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council for an extension to the runway. Such an extension would allow Birmingham to allow these and other long haul flights to its choice of destinations.
John Morris, Head of Corporate Affairs at Birmingham International stated: "The BIA team has really pulled together here this morning, and as well as welcoming diverted passengers, we've even got a few flights away a little earlier than scheduled."
The future for Birmingham International Airport looks set to bring in higher passenger numbers. At BCP we offer Birmingham Airport Parking at fantastic low costs. Remember to check back for the latest travel news and low priced airport parking.
