BAA Edinburgh airport has gained a new destination today as Delta Airlines has begun operating its service to JFK Airport in New York.
The American airline is now one of only two carriers that fly direct to New York from Scotland alongside Continental Airlines with US Airways flying from BAA Glasgow to Philadelphia. Travellers from the Scottish hub will be able to make use of 36 regional connections from JFK Airport including the Caribbean. Edinburgh currently offers Florida as a destination thanks to Virgin Atlantic and Flyglobespan.
A spokesperson from BAA Edinburgh Airport stated that the airport was "confident this route will prove very popular with both business and leisure passengers."
Edinburgh airport currently sees over 9 million passengers pass through the hub every year with more than 40 airlines serving over 100 destinations.
