Incident at Heathrow Airport

Following an incident at BAA Heathrow, the airport's south runway is currently closed.

BAA have confirmed that flight BA038, a Boeing 777 arriving from Beijing carried out an emergency landing on the runway at 12.42 today. Heathrow's emergency services attended the scene and passengers escaped via emergency chutes. All 136 passengers on board the flight were evacuated with early reports stating four people suffered minor injuries.

Eye witnesses stated that the airport appeared to be coming in too low and that it came to a halt quickly.

British Airways have commended the cabin crew, stating it had done "an excellent job" in evacuating passengers. The airline also stated that it will release more information as it becomes available. BA have issued a helpline for anybody concerned about family and friends: 0800 389 4193.

Some flights bound for Heathrow have been diverted to Stansted and Luton airports. Heathrow Airport's southern runway was re-opened at 14:30 for outgoing flights with the northern runway operating as usual. Passengers due to fly from Heathrow today should contact their airline for details on the status of their flight.
