Information for travellers affected by the situation in Greece

There is currently a financial crisis in the Greek economy. This is causing problems with local banks, and public services have been disrupted by strikes and demonstrations. This isn't likely to cause a problem for your holiday, though, and the UK Foreign Office has confirmed there is no reason to cancel your flight, so long as you take some precautions.

You should:
• Carry plenty of local currency in cash as you may have difficulty taking any more money out if the situation causes issues at local banks.
• Keep your passport on you at all times so you can identify yourself as a British citizen.
• Make sure you have travel insurance cover to get you home in case of an emergency.
• The Foreign Office suggests that you avoid drinking to excess or being disruptive as the local police will be on high alert.
