    Passenger Numbers Down at Aberdeen

Airport operator BAA have revealed passenger numbers for Aberdeen airport that show a drop of 5.8% in comparison to March of 2008.

Travellers flying in and out of the airport fell to 262,181 - a reduction attributed in part to the demise of City Star Airlines and less North Sea Oil helicopter flights. While passenger numbers overall dipped, flights to European destinations continued to show growth. During March there was an increase of more than 76% on flights to and from Copenhagen and a 27% rise in passenger traffic between the airport and Paris.

Commenting on the passenger drop, a spokesperson for BAA Aberdeen stated: "Bad weather and baggage difficulties and Heathrow saw a number of cancellations of services between Scotland and London, resulting in an unexpected reduction in the total number of passengers."

With Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen, BAA operate three airports across Scotland which handled close to 21.2 million passengers during the year to march with an overall increase of 2% on the previous year.
