A 'topping out' ceremony was held at Glasgow Airport's Sky Hub as the project team marked the new phase of the £30 million development.

There's just under 200 days until the new extension opens to the public on 21 October and the Skyhub - as it's been dubbed - will offer a major improvement to the passenger experience at the Scottish airport. The 4000 sq metre extension will feature a purpose-built security search area along with new bars, shops, restaurants and lounges.

The 'topping out' ceremony - which marks the completion of the physical completion of the structure - was attended by staff from Balfour Beatty, BAA Glasgow and Renfrewshire Council. The Skyhub is part of a £200 million ten year investment plan at Glasgow Airport by its operator BAA. It represents the largest single investment at the airport since the first international pier was built in 1994.

Managing Director of BAA Glasgow Airport Gordon Dewar stated: "Skyhub is the first of many major investments planned at Glasgow Airport, including a new rail link and a second international pier. By 2014, when Glasgow hosts the Commonwealth Games, the airport will be substantially transformed, boasting world class surface access links and a modern, welcoming environment."
